I am Balthas, a senior project manager for Global Knowledge Cooperation & Alumni at GIZ, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH. 'How to foster the freedom to innovate in developing countries?' is a key question of my work. I am particularly interested in the knowledge commons, global knowledge cooperation & social networks, that build human capacities, link up people and foster learning. With a background in international education work, private sector promotion and information technologies, I do advisory and training services for international cooperation programmes of the German government in the following areas: (1) peer-to-peer networking & community empowerment (2) social networks for and with Alumni worldwide(3) commons-based knowledge co-operation(4) open innovation and open source Previously, I worked at the department of Sustainable Business Development of GIZ / InWEnt, where I led capacity building programmes that promote the IT-sector in Africa and Asia, including ict@innovation, commons@ip, it@foss, FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam, it@coops. Before, I worked for UNESCO’s bureau of strategic planning, the GTZ and the UNDP.
