Sileshi Bedasie Hirko is currently pursuing his PhD in Law at the University of Ottawa and has received a Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) Graduate Scholarship in International Law.
Hirko has an LLB from Haramaya University in Ethiopia, and an LLM in Intellectual Property (IP) and Competition Law from Augsburg University’s Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) in Germany. He is a Professor of Law at Haramaya University in Ethiopia, where he has also served as Director of the Office of Legal Services and as Editor-in-Chief of the Haramaya Law Review.
His key area of research and teaching interest is IP Law, with an emphasis on copyright, plant breeders’ rights, and geographical indications. He as also taught Criminal and Family Law. Hirko has published a number of articles in international journals, including the Journal of African Law and the International Journal of Law, Policy and the Family.
