Meika Ellis has a BSc from the University of Alberta and is currently a Juris Doctor (JD) student at the University of Ottawa. Her main areas of interest are intellectual property (IP) law and health law. Meika has been with Open AIR since 2014, as a Research Assistant to Co-Principal Investigator Prof. Jeremy de Beer. She played a key role in 2014-15 in compiling Open AIR’s successful Partnership Grant application to Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). She is the Ombudsperson and primary contact for Open AIR’s NERG until 2017.
In addition to her University of Ottawa studies, Ellis had the opportunity to work in 2015 at the Health Law Institute of the University of Alberta, under Prof. Timothy Caulfield. While at the Institute, she participated in researching and editing papers on a wide range of topics, including rare disease policy, organ donation policies, and non-invasive prenatal testing in Canada.
