The 3rd Global Congress on IP and the Public Interest, hosted by Open AIR and the IP Unit at the University of Cape Town, followed on from the first two Global Congresses in Washington (2011) and Rio (2012).
The Congress was opened by an address from Ahmed Abdel Latif of the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD). KeyPoint presentations were delivered by a range of international experts including: Nagla Rizk of The American University in Cairo (AUC), Ruth Okediji of the University of Minnesota, Michael Geist of the University of Ottawa, Mark Heywood of South Africa’s SECTION27, Susan Sell of George Washington University, Sunil Abraham of the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Chidi Oguamanam of the University of Ottawa, Enyinna Nwauche of the University of Botswana, and Margaret Chon of the University of Seattle.
Delegates also met in breakaway sessions on five thematic tracks: 1. User Rights, 2. Openness, 3. Enforcement, 4. Traditional Knowledge (TK) and 5. Access to Medicines.
